“Kavya Is Bold, Strong, and Layered”
Speaking about her role in Gajanana Cricketers, Anvitha revealed that she plays the female lead, Kavya, a confident lawyer with a powerful personality.
“I am playing the female lead in the film, and my character’s name is Kavya. She is a lawyer and a very bold and beautiful character. It was an incredibly exciting role for me to portray because there are so many strong layers to her personality. I truly enjoyed bringing the character to life on screen.”
The actress added that the role gave her enough emotional depth and strength as a performer, making the experience creatively satisfying.
“This Script Made Me Return to Tulu Cinema”
Although Anvitha has become a familiar face in Kannada television, she says films have always remained her primary passion.
“My main focus has always been films. I initially moved into the serial industry because I wanted greater visibility, recognition, and a stronger reach among audiences, something that was difficult to achieve in Mangaluru at that time.”
According to her, the biggest reason for returning to the Tulu industry was the strength of the script.
“What brought me back for Gajanana Cricketers was the script. It is an exceptionally strong and well-written story. As an audience member myself, I honestly have not come across such a powerful Tulu script in the last 18 years.”
She fondly recalled watching Oriyardori Asal at Jyoti Theatre to a packed audience and said that experience showed her the true potential of Tulu cinema.
Anvitha also praised director Keerthan Bhandary for his storytelling style.
“The film has comedy and entertainment, but at the same time, it is deeply rooted in a concept that is very relatable to Coastal Karnataka underarm cricket.”
A Huge Cricket Fan and a Proud Mumbai Indians Supporter
Given the cricket-centric theme of the movie, Anvitha was asked about her personal connection with the sport.
“Oh yes, I am a huge cricket fan. I absolutely love the sport. I support Mumbai Indians and I know some people may hate me for saying that, but it’s true!”
She also shared her admiration for legendary cricketers.
“Growing up, my favorite cricketer was always Sachin Tendulkar because I watched him throughout my childhood. Currently, my favorite is Rohit Sharma.”
“Audiences Need to Support Tulu Cinema in Theatres”
Having worked extensively in both Kannada television and Tulu films, Anvitha believes the biggest difference lies in audience culture and support.
“Kannada audiences strongly support their stars and rarely miss watching a good film in theatres. For Tulu movies, however, audiences really need to step out and visit theatres.”
She expressed concern over the growing tendency among audiences to wait for OTT or online releases instead of watching films in cinemas.
“People need to understand that the Tulu film industry does not operate on a massive global scale where every film automatically lands an OTT deal. Producers invest their heart, soul, and hard-earned money into these projects.”
The actress stressed the need for a cultural shift where audiences actively support regional cinema during theatrical releases.
Current Projects and Future Plans
When asked about her upcoming work, Anvitha shared that while no new films have been officially finalized yet, she remains busy with television.
“As of now, I do not have any other films lined up. However, my ongoing serial Amruthadhaare is doing really well and keeping me busy.”
She also hinted that discussions are underway for a few micro-series projects, though nothing has been confirmed yet.
“The Tulu Industry Gave Me My Identity”
Ending the conversation on an emotional note, Anvitha expressed gratitude toward the Tulu industry for giving her recognition as an actor.
“I am incredibly happy and emotional about returning to the silver screen. The Tulu industry is what gave me my identity and first recognized my talent as an actor.”
She urged audiences to support Gajanana Cricketers when it releases on May 22.
“Our entire team has worked extremely hard on it. The final output has come out beautifully, and I genuinely believe audiences will connect with the emotions in the film. I sincerely request everyone to come to theatres and watch the movie with their families and friends. Please support our team and support Tulu cinema.”
