Mangaluru/Udupi, June 9, 2026: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts from June 8 to June 10, 2026, warning of extremely heavy rainfall as the southwest monsoon remains active over coastal Karnataka.
Several parts of Mangaluru, Udupi and surrounding regions have been witnessing continuous rainfall over the past few days, leading to waterlogging in low-lying areas and raising concerns over flooding and landslides. According to the IMD, isolated places in the two districts could receive extremely heavy rainfall exceeding 204.5 mm during the alert period.
The weather department has also forecast strong winds and rough sea conditions along the Karnataka coast. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the Arabian Sea, while residents living in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas have been urged to remain vigilant and follow official advisories.
District administrations are closely monitoring the situation and have kept emergency response teams on standby to deal with any rain-related incidents. Authorities have also advised people to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall and to stay away from rivers, streams, beaches, and other water bodies experiencing strong currents.
The southwest monsoon has fully covered Karnataka, bringing widespread rainfall across coastal districts. Weather officials expect the monsoon activity to remain strong over the next few days, with heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to continue across Dakshina Kannada and Udupi till June 10.
Residents are encouraged to stay updated through official weather bulletins and district administration announcements for the latest information and safety advisories.
